CHICKASHA, Oklahoma -- The family of a fallen football player was honored in Grady County during the Chickasha High School football game Friday night.

Kody Turner died last month from a heat-related illness while practicing with his team.

Friday night's matchup against Capitol Hill was the first home football game for Chickasha since losing Kody. His friends said what happened at the game Friday was the best way to remember #74.

The number 74 on Samantha Berten's shoes belongs to the one she calls Big Grease.

"He's just that kind of kid that when you walk into the room, you light up because that's Big Grease right there. You're gonna smile. You can't not smile around that kid," Berten said.

Kody was a junior at Chickasha High School and played on the varsity football team. Friday night Kody's family was presented and honored with his jersey.

It was the first public appearance Kody's family has made since his untimely death. Another tribute to Kody followed the first play of the game. The team lined up without a left guard, kneeled and then presented Kody's mom with the game ball.

It was a night to honor Kody, his family, and those who say #74 will always be first in their hearts.

Fans at Friday's game also wore specially designed t-shirts with Kody's number on the back.

A memorial fund for Kody's family has been set up at the Chickasha Bank and Trust Company.
