My 2 Cents: Congress Adjourning Before Voting to Extend Tax Cuts

OKLAHOMA CITY -- What would happen if your boss was waiting for you to make an important decision on the future of the company, and instead you decided to take a month off? You'd get fired, but that's what Congress did Wednesday night.

Americans were waiting to see if Congress would extend the Bush tax cuts, which expire at the end of the year. Many companies are sitting on what's described as a mountain of cash, not hiring, not growing, because they're worried how much of it the government will try to take away next year.

Despite protests from Republicans and some within their own Democratic party, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate leader Harry Reid sent Congress home until after the November 2 elections.

They're obviously worried about the political fallout if they cut taxes for some and raise them for those making over 250,000 a year.

They may say, it's only a month, we'll come back and deal with it, but tell that to someone who's looking for a job and keeps getting rejected by nervous employers.

It was gutless.

I think we should dock everyone who voted to adjourn a couple of months pay, give it to some unemployed Americans.
