OKLAHOMA CITY -- Many Oklahoma homeowners are trying to take advantage of historic low interest rates. Mortgage brokers said they have been swamped with calls from homeowners who want to refinance.

Fifteen year loans are hovering around 4 percent, and no one is sure how much lower they could go, or when they could come back up.

Either way, some Oklahomans aren't waiting around, but are opting to refinance now.

"Interest rates are so low, we couldn't help ourselves," said homeowner Kelly Smakel. "We don't plan on moving for a while, so it seems still not too actually."

However, many others said they can't take advantage of the rates despite how low they get. New data shows one third of Americans can't afford a mortgage, let alone refinance one.
