WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Tom Coburn delayed President Barack Obama's pick to become the next U.S. Marshal in the Western district of Oklahoma.

A Senate Judiciary Committee aide said Coburn has not given the green light for the committee to consider the nomination of Oklahoma Highway Patrol Major Charles Weeks.

Coburn has declined to discuss the issue until he talks to Weeks.

U.S. Marshal nominees in other states have cleared the committee and the full Senate since President Obama nominated Weeks back in June.

Weeks has worked for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety since 1985 and is backed by both Governor Brad Henry and former Governor Frank Keating.
