PURCELL, Oklahoma -- Authorities said four people were killed in a single-vehicle accident in McClain County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the accident happened just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 77 about three miles south of Purcell.

Troopers said a pickup truck driven by Jordan Powell, 23, was traveling south on the highway when it drifted into the northbound lanes. The trooper's report stated Powell jerked the vehicle over to avoid hitting an oncoming car but the truck ran off the road and into a culvert.

The truck struck an embankment and overturned several times, ejecting Powell, Trulie Beason, 36; Gregory Haegele, 48; Cody Simmons, 22; Rebecca Sisca and an unidentified passenger.

Powell and Sisca were both flow by a medical helicopter to a hospital where they were listed in serious condition Saturday.

The report stated Powell was the only one wearing a seat belt.

According to the trooper's report, the exact cause of the collision and the condition of the driver are both pending an investigation.
