ENID, Oklahoma -- The city of Enid made an attempt Saturday to set a new Guinness World Record for flying the most kites at one time.

The city got about 2,600 kites in the air last year and needed about 1,000 more this year to break the record set in the Gaza Strip.

Kevin May and his family drove four hours from Guymon to Enid to join the record breaking attempt festivities.

"I'm trying to get my kite to go as far as I can," May said.

But the tally came in and the record still belongs in the Gaza Strip. People in Enid only put up 2,439 kites on Saturday, well short of the more than 3,700 kite flying record.

The event was also a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity and Enid's SPCA.
