TULSA, Oklahoma – A Green Country ambulance service received an "A+" for its emergency health care this month. EMSA is one of only 159 ambulances services in the country to achieve accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services.

The achievement ranks EMSA among the top one percent of ambulance services across the country, based on 15,276 ambulance services in the U.S., according to the American Ambulance Service.

"For our patients, and their loved ones, family and friends, this is validation that they are getting the best possible emergency health care in the most efficient and affordable way," said Stephen Williamson, EMSA chief executive officer.

Williamson said he was especially proud that EMSA was accredited with no deficiencies, and that it is unusual for a provider to get a perfect score on the first application.

The voluntary review is done every three years. Ambulance services fill out a comprehensive application and are reviewed on site by national experts in emergency medical services.

Today, EMSA serves more than 1.1 million residents in Central and Northeast Oklahoma. Service areas include Tulsa, Sand Springs, Bixby, Jenks, Oklahoma City, Edmond, Bethany, Mustang, Nichols Hills, Piedmont, The Village, Warr Acres, Yukon, Lake Aluma, Arcadia and Valley Brook.

There is one other ambulance service in Oklahoma that has achieved the goal. It is the Cherokee Nation emergency medical services department, with its headquarters in Tahlequah.

EMSA has provided advanced life support ambulance service in Oklahoma since 1978.
