OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City is a stop today on an eight-state pet adoption tour called "Get Your Licks on Route 66."

The adoption event, hosted by North Shore Animal League America and FIDO Friendly Magazine, will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today in the parking lot of PetSmart, 2140 W. Memorial Road.

North Shore Animal League is bringing their 33-foot air conditioned and self contained mobile adoption unit to the event.

Event partners include the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter, Hounds of the Heartland, Best Friends of Pets, Pet Angel Rescue and Forever Friends Humane Society.

Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be available for adoption. Adoption fees for the groups vary, but fees for Animal Welfare's shelter pets will be $25.

The "Get Your Licks on Route 66" tour is partnering with local shelters and rescue groups as they travel through Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
