TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- Tulsa Police canceled an Amber Alert Monday afternoon after an eight-year-old girl reported missing was found safe. The suspect, her father, was arrested after falling off a railroad bridge into the Verdigris River.

Officers said Ambrose Martinez III abducted his eight-year-old daughter Alyssa Martinez from Tulsa.

Catoosa Police found Alyssa and Martinez walking on state Highway 66 across the Verdigris River Bridge Monday afternoon. Officers said the girl appeared to be unharmed. Police said Martinez ran from officers and stood on a railroad bridge over the Verdigris River, threatening to jump into the river.

After a two-hour standoff, police said Martinez fell off the bridge and into the river, but authorities were able to pull him from the water.

"As the officers were coming in towards him, he turned loose and the belt he had around his neck failed and he ended up in the water," said John Bliss, Assistant Chief for Catoosa Police.

TPD said Martinez has outstanding warrants for rape and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. They said the girl witnessed the alleged crimes.

In late July, Martinez's girlfriend, Monya Battiest, filed a report of first degree rape and domestic assault and battery in the presence of minor children against him. She also petitioned for a protective order against Martinez on July 6. Monya said on July 5th, 2010, Ambrose beat her with a chair leg, cut her with scissors, tried to strangle her with a belt, kicked her and then raped her.

Battiest went missing for ten days in August before authorities found her in South Dakota on August 18, 2010.

Martinez was taken to the hospital after authorities pulled him from the water Monday afternoon.
