OKLAHOMA CITY -- This has been a tough week for allergy sufferers, but some relief may be in sight. It's impossible to control some things and no matter what you do you may feel like you're sneezing and coughing and just can't breathe. But there are a few things you can do inside and outside your home that could help.

When you're working on your landscaping, you can select plants and trees that are less-likely to trigger allergies.

• Avoid trees that have long blooming periods. Those are the source of pollen and trigger lots of allergic reactions.

• Also, how you take care of your yard can make a difference. Shredded mulch could harbor mold spores. Especially when it's is wet. Consider wood chips or river rocks instead.

There is even more you can do inside your home. The three main sources of allergens in your home are dust, mold spores and pets

The following are things you can do to help reduce allergens:

• Vacuum every week. Look for a vacuum with a HEPA filter or a double bag.

• Choose hard surface flooring.

• Keep humidity in check. If your home is humid, get a dehumidifier. When it's colder and dry, then use a humidifier. There are devices available to measure those levels.

• If you have to have a pet, go for a pet without fur, like turtles and fish. If you absolutely have to have a dog, give it a bath once a week.
