Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Attempting to Kill Grandmother

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma grandson was sentence Wednesday for trying to beat his grandmother to death.

A Pontotoc County judge sentenced 21-year-old Daniel Whelchel to 22 years in prison.

Sixty-year-old Elaine Whelchel told authorities that her grandson said, "Grandma, I have been waiting for you to die naturally, but that hasn't happened so I'm going to kill you. How do you want it? I can break your neck, or I can beat your head."

Prosecutors said he kicked and beat her then left her for dead in a pasture. She then crawled 500 feet to her sister's house for help.
