Skiatook High School Principal's Suspension Leaves Some Outraged

SKIATOOK, OKLAHOMA -- An award-winning principal at Skiatook Public Schools was suspended Monday, leaving some parents and students outraged.

High School principal Donna Brogan was recently named Oklahoma's Secondary Principal of the Year. But as of Monday night, she was on paid suspension.

Monday night's Skiatook's School Board meeting was packed with concerned parents and students wanting an explanation for what happened.

Some parents say Brogan is being punished for urging the school board to get rid of superintendent Steve Williams. Williams took over for indicted superintendent Gary Johnson, who is accused of wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on overpriced janitorial supplies and security equipment. 

"He went to the person who had vocally opposed him and with his newfound power took her down, had her escorted by police out of our high school in front of these kids and it was just wrong," said Robert Ridenour, a concerned parent.

A Skiatook School Board member told The News On 6 Monday night that the school district can't say much yet.

"It just happened at three o'clock (Monday) afternoon, so rather than risk anything that might compromise either side, I'm not at privy to say right now," Skiatook School Board Member Tim Allen said.

A Tulsa County grand jury recently called Williams incompetent.
