Bones Found in OKC Believed to Be Woman Missing Since 2004

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police think they've found the bones and clothing of a woman who has been missing for the past six years.

Vickie Peters disappeared shortly after separating from her husband, Ervin McCoy, in April of 2004. Her family has long suspected her estranged husband had something to do with her disappearance.

Last Thursday, police began searching a wooded area in northeastern Oklahoma County after McCoy directed them where to find Peters' body as part of a plea deal. In exchange, McCoy expects to receive a 30-year prison sentence for the 2004 shooting death of Alex Record, a former co-worker.

Prosecutors say McCoy is suspected of killing six people. But so far he's only charged with Record's death.

In 2004, friends, family and complete strangers searched for her Peters in Dolese Park, near the apartments where she used to live, but of course turned up nothing.

"I'm glad to see people are supporting us and willing to help find my mother. I am very happy about that," said Bridgette Hicks, Vickie's daughter.

The medical examiner's office is still waiting for dental records from the family to help make the positive identification. Once those have been turned over, they should know if the remains they found are Vickie Peters.

"We don't like to say we think it's this person. We want to know for sure so we are working with the family on getting those dental records brought to us so we can do the comparison so we'll know for sure and then perhaps give this family a bit of peace," said Cherokee Ballard," State Medical Examiner's Office spokesperson.

And that's all the family has ever wanted all these years, some peace, some answers, some closure and most of all, to lay Vickie Peters to rest.
