Hermine Brings Heavy Rain, Possible Flooding Across State Today

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Tropical Depression Hermine is brought rain throughout the state Wednesday. Hermine is expected to track north through western Oklahoma, bringing the heaviest rainfall totals to central portions of the state, including the Oklahoma City metro.

Significant and dangerous flash floods will be of concern Wednesday afternoon and through the night. Central Oklahoma could see up to six inches of rain by Thursday morning with amounts tapering off into western and eastern Oklahoma.

Another concern with tropical systems are strong winds and weak tornadoes. There is the slight risk of tornadoes in central Oklahoma throughout today.

Much of Oklahoma is under a flash flood watch until Thursday morning when remnants of Hermine are expected to move into southern Kansas.

Because of the risk of flooding, leaders in Oklahoma City are urging people to be careful and stay away from flood prone areas.

"People who live in or around a flood plain or flood prone area should be hyper vigilant this week and prepared to evacuate to high ground on short notice," said Oklahoma City Emergency Manager Frank Barnes.

Heavy rain today will keep lows in the upper 70s but by Thursday afternoon, high could be in the upper 80s. Conditions will be warm and humid heading into the weekend.
