THACKERVILLE, Oklahoma -- An Oklahoma woman drowned Saturday while trying to save four children along the Red River.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the kids and two adults were on a sandbar at Jack Rabbit Island near Thackerville in Love County.

OHP troopers say the adults noticed the kids had stepped into the water and were struggling. Both rushed to help them, but the woman got into trouble herself and drowned.

The other adult was able to save the kids, but was unable to rescue the victim.

The victim was identified as 28-year-old Natachia Payne of Marietta, Oklahoma.
