CHICKASAW, Oklahoma -- Grady County Sheriff Art Kell said the town of Ninnekah owes more than $2,000 in dispatch fees, and because Ninnekah refuses to pay, the 911 center will no longer dispatch Ninnekah police officers to calls in the town.

Starting Monday, Kell said only Grady County deputies will be dispatched to incidents in Ninnekah.

Kell said about a half dozen Grady County towns use the dispatch center and they are all paid up.

"They're all happy with their dispatching, and they're happy that we do it for the price that we give to them," Kell said.

Ninnekah town officials said they think the fee, $380 a month, is too high and should be lowered because the town has turned over its fire department to the county.

Sheriff Kell said he thinks the change on Monday should have no effect on public safety. Both sides indicate a willingness to try to find a solution.
