NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Norman police are looking for a man who shot and wounded another man near Lake Thunderbird Wednesday morning.
The victim was found not far from Lakeview Elementary school.
Police told the principal a lockdown wasn't necessary.
"We did receive an alert from the Norman Police Department that they had a situation and they had to block off a part of the road, notifying us. I asked at that time if there was any concern for a lockdown. They said no. They had the suspect. They knew where the suspect was," said principal Paula Palermo.
But the district did send out a so-called IRIS alert to parents, and some of them came by to take their children home.
"I got an IRIS alert from the Norman public schools that there was a shooting, and I was just concerned for my son," said parent Wayne Higdon.
The police have not found the gunman. The condition of the victim is not known.
