OKLAHOMA CTIY -- John Doak, 47, a former insurance agent and executive from Tulsa, has defeated former Insurance Commissioner John Crawford, 78, of Oklahoma City, in a runoff election for the GOP Insurance Commissioner nominee.

In the only statewide race on Tuesday's ballot, the Doak beat Crawford, who was looking to return to the office he held for one term in the 1990s

Doak will go up against Democratic incumbent Kim Holland in the November 2 general election

Doak opposed the new federal health care law and emphasized his 20 years in the insurance industry, first as an agent and later as an industry executive.

Crawford served one term after being elected the state's first Republican insurance commissioner in 1994.
