OKLAHOMA CITY -- Summer officially ends for kids across Oklahoma today. School buses rolled all across the metro this morning as thousands of students at Oklahoma City, Putnam City, Edmond, Moore, Norman, Piedmont and Yukon are back in class.

Traffic will likely pick up today as well as students will now be heading to and from school at high traffic points during the week.

Motorists are encouraged to be careful when driving through school zones. Drivers could face serious fines if caught speeding. Speeding in school zone is a $202 minimum, passing in a school zone will cost $172 and illegally passing a school bus is $202.

The times these areas are considered school zones are before and after school. But start and end of day times also vary school by school.

If your student is stressed out about heading back to class, then don't give them a ride to school. A new study by researchers at the University of Buffalo says walking to school may help reduce children's stress throughout the day.

The study shows the blood pressure of the kids who got a ride to school was three times higher than those who walked. This sounds like a stretch, but the findings show the reduction in stress could prevent heart disease later in life.
