OKLAHOMA CITY -- With temperatures finally dipping below 100, EMSA officials have lifted the fifth heat alert of the summer.

Temperatures in the forecast are expected to remain in the mid to low 90's for the next few days making it cool enough to lift the heat alert.

Since the first alert was issued May 29, nearly 240 Oklahomans have suffered heat related injuries.

Paramedics still urge caution when doing outdoor activity for any length of time. Hydration, frequent breaks and shady venues are always recommended anytime someone is planning to be outside.

A heat alert is issued if EMSA receives five or more heat-related calls in a 24 hour period.

Emergency officials offer the following tips to stay safe in the extreme heat:

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Wear light-colored clothing. It's believed wearing dark colors could add another 5 degrees.
  • Take time out in the shade to cool off

Symptoms of heat exhaustion include:

  • Being dizzy, tired or weak
  • Fainting spells
  • Getting flushed
  • Heavy sweating
  • Fast heartbeat

Paramedics recommend calling 911 if these symptoms persist for about an hour after someone moves into a cool place.
