EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Copper thieves struck again over the weekend in Edmond.

Thieves stole copper from six air conditioning units at Canyon Park, a business complex at 19th Street and Bryant. The thefts came just two weeks after Edmond police warned local businesses that copper thefts were on the rise in the area.

At the end of July, thieves targeted air conditioners at a business complex in the 2800 block of South Bryant. They also stripped all copper wiring from a house under construction on Garden Hill Drive. Police say the thefts have caused thousands of dollars in damage, but the amount of wire stolen is only worth a few hundred dollars.

Police are asking scrap metal dealers to make sure people trying to sell copper wiring are legitimate, and to call police if the seller seems suspicious.
