OKLAHOMA CITY -- EMSA paramedics said they have responded to 15 heat-related calls so far on Saturday.
With temperatures spiking into the triple digits again, EMSA's Heat Alert that was issued Tuesday is still in affect. EMSA said the alert will be in place until temperatures drop significant.
The conditions of the patients treated Saturday are not yet known.
Emergency officials offer the following tips to stay safe in the extreme heat:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Wear light-colored clothing. It's believed wearing dark colors could add another 5 degrees.
- Take time out in the shade to cool off
Symptoms of heat exhaustion include:
- Being dizzy, tired or weak
- Fainting spells
- Getting flushed
- Heavy sweating
- Fast heartbeat
Paramedics recommend calling 911 if these systems persist for about an hour after someone moves into a cool place.
