MCCLAIN COUNTY, OK -- A Mustang teen was killed in a head-on collision overnight Sunday. Ethan W. Hendricks, 19, died at about 2:09 a.m. on State Highway 74B just east of MacArthur in McClain County.
Hendricks was driving eastbound on the two-lane road in a 1991 Honda Accord. His vehicle crossed the center line as he was topping a hillcrest and struck a 2009 Chevy pickup driven by a Blanchard man, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Hendricks died at the scene from massive injuries. Pickup driver Frank Mayfield, 44, was treated and released from Norman Regional Hospital. His truck overturned and came to rest on its top.
Hendricks was using a seatbelt but his car was not equipped with air bags, the trooper states. Mayfield's vehicle had air bags that deployed, and he was using a seatbelt as well.
The cause of the collision and Hendricks' condition at the time of the accident are list as under investigation. The trooper said Mayfield was in apparently normal condition.
