OKLAHOMA CITY -- A mother and daughter from Chicago made a whirlwind trip to Oklahoma City and back again Saturday morning.
Lori Bennett and her 15 year old daughter, Lillie, were on a rescue mission to give two dogs a new home. The Bennetts caught a flight out of Chicago at 9 a.m., reached Oklahoma City at 11 a.m., then boarded a return flight to Chicago at 11:30 a.m. When they left Will Rogers World Airport, they had two extra companions, Zach and Gillie, on board with them. Zach and Gillie belong to the rare Brussels Griffon breed of dogs.
"They're very playful and very, very loyal," Lillie Bennett said.
The two dogs were recently rescued from a puppy mill in the Oklahoma City metro area.
Three years ago, the Bennetts rescued another Brussels Griffon. As a result, their names ended up on a national rescue waiting list.
Last month, the director of the Oklahoma City-based Orphaned Angels Rescue Mission contacted Lori and Lillie to see if they would like to adopt Zach and Gillie. They said "yes," and Saturday they made good on their promise.
The Bennetts plan to keep Zach and will find a good home for Gillie.
