ALBURQUERQUE, New Mexico -- Authorities continue to search for clues to determine how two Oklahomans died inside a burned-out camper.

New Mexico state police say they are investigating the incident as a double homicide.

Since the bodies were discovered Thursday afternoon, New Mexico state police say they have received several tips from people who saw not just the trailer but the Chevy pickup with Oklahoma tags that was hauling that trailer.

However, given the nature of the potential crime scene, authorities say identifying the bodies will take time.

Authorities say Gary and Linda Haas are the owners of the truck and trailer, but do not know yet if they are the victims.

What certainly has the authorities' attention is where the burnt-out trailer was found. They say the trailer was discovered on a ranch in a very remote part of Santa Rosa, New Mexico. That discovery is concerning because the pickup truck, which was determined to be hauling the trailer, was found nearly two hours away in Albuquerque.

The New Mexico state police say they will continue to follow leads, but admit determining what happened to the victims won't be easy.

"This is an out-of-state vehicle," said New Mexico State Police Lt. Eric F. Garcia. "We are going to have to work across jurisdictions from between a full state over; between New Mexico and Oklahoma itself. Time is of the essence, we are trying to quickly identify the bones."

While authorities are waiting until the bodies can officially be identified through dental records, NEWS 9 has spoken to those who believe they know who the victims are. They didn't want to be interviewed, but say they have no idea why the couple would have been in New Mexico.

Anyone with any information that could help New Mexico authorities is urged to call them at 505-827-3361.
