OKLAHOMA CITY -- The heat is on in Oklahoma, and expecting to stay. Highs today will range from 98 degrees to 106 degrees across Oklahoma with mostly sunny skies. The UV index will be up quite high today at a level 10. The good news is that the air will be dry, so heat indices will be very close to the actual temperature.
Lows for the next week will start off in the mid 70s with highs in the low 100s. Winds will be from the south at 5 to 15 mph throughout the next week for not much of a breeze.
Heading into next weekend moisture will increase in the air, raising heat indices and making for hot and humid conditions next weekend.
With the extremely high heat it is important to stay weather aware and take precautions. Make sure to drink plenty of water, put on sunscreen and try not to stay outdoors for an extended period of time. Make sure to check on your elderly neighbors and don't forget about pets. They also need plenty of water and shade.
Stay with NEWS 9, we'll keep you advised.
