Family of Suspect Accused in Man's Murder Says She Was Forced to Partake

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A day after being arrested for first-degree murder, robbery and kidnapping, the family of Midiyuana Huber, 20, said she didn't do what she's being accused of doing.

"It's just ripping my heart out really because she's my baby and she's done nothing like TV is portraying her to be," said Tami Landers, Huber's mother.

Huber and two others are accused of killing 54-year-old Charles Dutton. According to a spokesperson with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics, Dutton was robbed, kidnapped and then driven about 50 miles away from his home to rural Southwest Oklahoma City between Lake Thunderbird and Lake Stanley Draper where his body was eventually found.

"He [Charles] was like any brother. He would have done anything I asked him to do. We had our fights too, but he didn't do anything to deserve this," said Vickie Edwards, Dutton's older sister.

According to Edwards, based on the amount of blood found inside her brother's home, Dutton was severely beaten. Huber's mother said her daughter did not want any part of that.

"She's got a really big heart and would never hurt anybody. She just got caught up with the wrong person," Landers said.

Landers said she is desperate to tell her daughter's story. Landers said she spoke to her daughter before she was arrested Friday evening. According to her daughter, Huber was hanging out with L.C. "Butch" Baker, the one person authorities are still searching for. Her daughter claimed Baker drove her to Charles Dutton's Logan County home. It's where she said the two of them met up with the other suspects, Christy Lee Rogers, 28, and Donald Elliott, 24. While there Landers said her daughter was forced to watch as Dutton was beaten repeatedly.

"She didn't take part in any of it. She was an [innocent bystander], but she was forced to stay there by L.C. He had her at gunpoint, and if she left they were going to pop [shoot] her," Landers said.

Baker, who is only being described as a person of interest by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics according to the Department of Corrections, was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2001 for first-degree manslaughter but ended up serving only four. Landers said if Baker is caught, she's confident it would help free her daughter.

"I'm not a person who wishes harm on somebody, but I wish God would strike him and make him pay for what he did. What he did was wrong and to implement innocent people I don't know why he did that," Landers said.

Dutton's family said they believe he was murdered over money. They said Dutton had recently come into some money after he received a settlement from a workman's comp injury. Huber's mother confirmed that, saying Rogers mentioned to her daughter that Dutton had $55,000 on him and she wanted the money.

Authorities are continuing to look for L.C. "Butch" Baker, who is also known to go by the last name Holton. Agents said he drives a black 2004 Honda Civic with Oklahoma plates, the tag number is 341-FSI.
