OKLAHOMA CITY -- Gov. Brad Henry says he'll support his fellow Democrat, Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, for governor in this fall's general election.
Henry made the endorsement on Thursday. He said he plans a more formal announcement for Askins in a few weeks.
Askins won the Democratic nomination for governor over Attorney General Drew Edmondson in Tuesday's primary election. She will face U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, winner of the Republican primary election, in the November general election for governor.
In a brief statement, Henry described Askins, a former state representative and judge, as an outstanding public servant. He says she has been an invaluable partner in his administration. He says Askins has the experience necessary to lead the state and will make a great governor.
