BETHANY, Oklahoma -- A Weatherford girl severely injured in an ATV accident is making a miraculous recovery.
Mackina Dobrinski has a severe spinal injury from the accident in May. Since then, the high school track athlete has been on the road to a speedy recovery at The Children's Center in Bethany.
"She has surpassed what we hoped for in her neurological recovery and sort of coupled with her attitude and her athletic background, and that drive that comes from that I think. She's actually done more with what recovery she's had than we could have hoped for," said Dr. Ed Wright, a pediatric physiatrist at The Children's Center.
For six weeks, Dobrinski went through physical therapy at The Children's Center, taking it step by step as a patient and full time cheerleader.
"She was always the one cheering other kids on when they're in therapy, and she's always telling them you can do this," said Rebecca Carman, Dobrinski's mother.
Dobrinski's hometown gave her a big welcome home Friday as she was finally able to come back home to Weatherford.
"I was like, wow. There are so many people here for me, and I was happy," Dobrinski said.
The community fundraised nearly $14,000 in one day and helped to make the family's home more accessible for Dobrinski.
"The community turn out has been amazing. It's brought Weatherford so close together," Carman said.
There will be another fundraiser for Dobrinski to help with medical and traveling costs this Saturday in Weatherford.
"I've been so thankful for everything that everybody's done and happy that God let me walk again," Dobinski said.
Dobrinski said she plans on volunteering at the Children's Center and want to study to be a nurse when she grows up.
