OKLAHOMA CITY -- A man was wounded when a gun discharged at an Oklahoma City gun show Sunday morning.

Oklahoma City police say a vendor at the Metcalf Gun Show failed to empty the weapon and it accidentally discharged when he was handing it to a potential buyer, hitting the vendor's son at about 11:45 a.m.

"The owner has admitted he simply failed to clear the gun. In fact it was his son who was shot in the knee," said Oklahoma City Police Lt. Jay Barnett.

The 22-year-old victim was transported from the fairgrounds to an Oklahoma City hospital where he is expected to recover.

Organizers said the man will not be allowed to operate a table at their shows again.

Police Sgt. Charles Phillips said two off-duty police officers were at the doors making sure guns were unloaded as they were brought in, but they do not check guns held by vendors.

He said guns held by vendors should be set not to fire for safety purposes, but there is no law requiring it.
