Cycling Community Holds Memorial Ride for Cyclists Killed Over Weekend

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Nearly 300 members of the cycling community honored two cyclists who were killed over the weekend with a memorial ride Thursday evening.

Fifty-six-year-old Alan Spencer was killed Saturday by a hit-and-run driver at Midwest Boulevard and 122nd Street. Seventy-five-year-old Clyde Riggs was hit and killed just four miles away by a driver on Sunday. That driver did stop.

Avid cyclists, including the owner of Schlegel Bicycles, gathered to remember both Riggs and Spencer.

"It's very comforting. It's awesome. I knew we had a good community but didn't realize it was this big," said Spencer's son Kyle. "Today is ending on a great note."

Steve Schlegel said ghost bikes were placed at the sites where the two were killed. Cyclists gathered at Lake Arcadia and Oakdale Elementary around 7 p.m. Thursday. The bikers rode out and converged at the accident sites around 7:30 p.m.
