OKLAHOMA CITY – Two men were killed in separate car accidents just four miles apart while cycling over the weekend. Families, friends and the cycling community are devastated by the loss.

The most recent accident happened Sunday morning when 75-year-old Clyde Riggs, a local businessman was struck and killed by a pickup while riding his bike.

His death is hitting his family and co-workers hard and also those who worked with him in the community.

"I was shocked and very saddened as I'm sure all who had the opportunity to know Clyde. Our community has lost a wonderful person, leader and supporter," said Pam Newby.

Newby first got to know Riggs about 2 and a half years ago when he began helping her non-profit. Newby founded Special Care, a non-profit organization specializing in helping children, including those with disabilities. Riggs owned some land nearby and as the owner of a construction company, he got involved in trying to help the school and daycare expand.

"He wanted to make sure he toured the building, saw the kids that we serve. He was a kind hearted man and his heart was touched," Newby said.

Alan Spencer of Edmond also worked in the construction business. The 56-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run Saturday morning at Midwest Boulevard and 122nd Street while cycling. Police are now looking for the driver involved in the hit-and-run. If you have any information, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 235-73-00.

Spencer's family spent the day making funeral arrangements and they are devastated by this tragedy.

Spencer was a member at Memorial Church of Christ. A former pastor said he went on mission trips, loved his family and his church. He became a grandfather about a month ago and another daughter is getting married in just a few months.

Funeral services for Riggs are this Thursday morning in Oklahoma City. Funeral services have not been finalized for Spencer.
