ELGIN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Comanche County authorities said two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide that occurred in a bank parking lot in Elgin.

The shooting occurred Monday morning in the parking lot of the Bank of the Wichitas.

The victims have been identified as Raymond Dye, a city of Lawton firefighter, and Diane Dye, an Elgin Public Schools teacher and coach.

Witnesses said Raymond confronted his wife in the bank parking lot, then gunned her down and turned the gun on himself. The couple was going through a bitter divorce.

Friends said Diane didn't deserve to die the way she did. The 40-year-old was known as a beautiful woman inside and out who excelled in everything.

"She was a great teacher. I made straight A's in her class all year," said former student Dustin Barrett.

She was also a woman who tried to escape an ugly marriage. She filed protective orders against 42-year-old Raymond, her high-school sweetheart whom she married. Together they owned a sandwich shop and fitness gym in town.

"He always seemed like he was pretty laid back, always smiling. Never really seemed like he had issues," said Lance Dubois, a member of the Dye's fitness gym.

Diane Dye was a graduate of Cameron University and a native of Geronimo, Oklahoma.

The couple has two children, a son in his twenties who's training to be a police officer in Lawton and a daughter who is a senior at Elgin High School was away at basketball camp when the incident happened.

Lawton Fire Chief Bart Hadley said "our hearts and prayers go out to the family."
