OKLAHOMA CITY -- Thousands are expected to pack the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds this weekend for free medical care.
The clinic, Remote Area Medical or RAM, opened today at 6 a.m. and runs through July 11.
According to RAM's Web site, patients seeking care should enter the State Fairgrounds at the intersection of N. May Avenue and Gordon Cooper Boulevard in order to receive the required paper for treatment. Care will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Anita Rosa drove from Binger, Okla. for a free eye exam. She arrived at the fairgrounds at 10 p.m. Thursday night. Until Friday morning, she hadn't seen an eye doctor since 2006.
"The last place I went to was like $100 per exam," Rosa said, "so I'd rather eat and put gas in my car than pay $100 for my eyes."
Rosa said the free pair of glasses she received will help her live life with clearer direction.
"I'd be able to get my [driver's] license. That's my top priority right there," Rosa said.
The clinic was filled to capacity and not accepting any more patients Friday.
However, Remote Area Medical will provide care through Sunday.
