EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Arcadia Lake will reopen for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, lake officials said.
All four parks will be open and people can begin heading to the lake at 3 p.m. on Friday.
Officials have been working to clean up Arcadia for the last two weeks after heavy floods forced the lake to close. The water began receding about one foot per day.
Right now, the water is still nine feet above normal, but park officials expect it to drop to four to five feet by Friday. The water was 17 feet above normal two weeks ago.
Workers warn the ground will still be mushy and a few tables might still be under water so boaters will have to take caution.
"The water quality is being tested and the results should be in later this evening," said Earl London, City of Edmond Assistant Park and Recreations Director.
The mess at the lake is yet another reminder to throw trash where it belongs. Crews will hold a volunteer cleanup day the first Saturday in August. Get more details on the Arcadia Lake Sweep.
All metro area lakes are currently open.
