SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's office recovered the body of a man who drowned in the North Canadian River Sunday night.

According to authorities, the body of 21-year-old Raul Rudy Castillo, who was staying in the Meeker area, was located at about 8 a.m. Tuesday morning not far from where he was fishing.

Castillo waded out into the river and was swept away by currents. His friends searched for him briefly before notifying emergency personnel.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said this is the tenth drowning reported this month. OHP said many of these drownings may have been prevented had the individuals involved worn life jackets.
