Teachers Lose Teaching Certificates After Sexual Misconduct Convictions

The Oklahoma board of education has revoked the teaching certificates of three former teachers accused of sex acts against students.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Board of Education has revoked the teaching certificates of three former teachers accused of sex acts against students.

James Ellis, Jr. is in prison serving a 476-year prison sentence. The John Marshall High School teacher was convicted last year on 34 counts of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student.

Dale Swank is a former art teacher at Independence Charter Middle School in Oklahoma City. He was convicted of sexual assault with intent to commit a felony.  Swank received a 5-year suspended sentence.

James Gilbertson also received a 5-year suspended sentence for forcible sodomy, rape by instrumentation and sexual battery of a person under 16.  Gilbertson is a former Guthrie High School teacher and assistant coach.
