NOBLE, Oklahoma -- A non-profit in Oklahoma known for helping injured animals is now in need of help themselves. The WildCare Foundation, located in Noble, is in a contest for a $250,000 grant.

WildCare is fully funded by private donations and this grant would easily be the facilities largest single source of money. The foundation takes in injured wildlife like baby opossums and nurses them back to health.

"I have such a soft spot for wildlife animals that's injured," said Rondi Large, WildCare Director. "With some resources you can get them healthy and get them back into the wild."

WildCare's clinic is only about 12‘ by 10' and they need to expand. Twenty-five years ago the clinic saw one animal. Today they take in over 4,000 wildlife with a 10 person staff.

They've outgrown their facilities and need votes in order to get a grant from Pepsi's Refresh Project. The two organizations with the most votes will get the $250,000 grant from Pepsi.

"With this new building, which we hope would be a 4,000 square foot building, we would have monitors to the nursery, to the fawn pen, so people could see what goes on here as opposed to this one little room," said Rondi Large, WildCare Director.

There are plenty of supporters and WildCare needs their votes. Sue Stone commented on WildCare's Pepsi Refresh Project page "WildCare offers a much-needed service to wildlife. A great organization that would really do a lot with this award."

Large said the grant would drastically improve the service her organization provides.

"It's not like we won't accept animals and we wouldn't still be there, but it's just so very cramped and it would be a dream come true for our organization," the non-profit's director said.

And winning the money couldn't come at a better time. With the recent natural disasters across Oklahoma, like the flooding, WildCare is now taking in more animals than ever before.
