AUSTIN, Texas -- As Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott makes visits to the five schools being courted to join his conference, Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe is trying to hold the conference together.

According to Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com, a proposal made by Beebe that would allow the Big 12 to remain together as a 10-member conference is being considered by the University of Texas. The plan is rumored to contain a payout near what the Southeastern Conference pays each of its member schools, $17 million per school.
