OKLAHOMA CITY -- Motorsports enthusiasts are flooding Oklahoma City for the 2010 Oklahoma City Nationals Drag Boat Racing on the Oklahoma River this week. The event's chairman said it's proof of the success motorsports events can have in Oklahoma City.

Mike McAuliffe is part of a group working with city leaders to bring a Grand Prix race to the city.

"We've been working diligently the last few months. We should have an announcement by July 1, 2010. We're discussing terms as far as having the race," McAuliffe said.

He said his group and the city should have news by the end of the month due to planning purposes.

"If we're going to do the race in 2011, we would probably do the July timeframe in 2011, and we need probably at least a year to put the race on. So I would think around first of July we need to make a decision or an announcement," McAuliffe said.

Motorsports fans in town for the drag boat races said they think a Grand Prix would be an excellent fit for Oklahoma City.

"I think anything that has a motor in it and goes fast and makes a bunch of noise, we like it. If they are smart and want to make money. It's a great thing to do," said Bob Montgomery, B&R racing owner.
