OKLAHOMA CITY -- All Woodward County fire crews were called to the scene of a chemical fire in a plant five miles west of the Woodward airport.
The fire broke out in 40 pounds of red phosphorous located in the Deep Water Chemicals manufacturing plant.
Woodward County Emergency Management Director Matt Lehenbauer said one person was burned when a flash fire erupted while the employee was loading phosphorous into a processor. The worker was taken to a Woodward hospital, but Lehenbauer didn't release the worker's condition or name.
He said the rest of the building and two nearby businesses were evacuated as fire crews extinguished the blaze. Lehenbauer said employees weren't immediately allowed to return to work because of concern about inhalation hazards.
The fire was contained to the building. It is unclear exactly how the blaze started.
