OKLAHOMA CITY -- Starting Monday, June 7, AT&T will no longer offer unlimited data plans, meaning most customers will no longer be able to e-mail, text or stream as much as they want.
AT&T customers who already have a plan will not be affected. New customers will now only have two data plan options to choose from costing $15 to $25 a month.
However, since neither plan offers unlimited data, customers who are too active one month could get slapped with another $10 to $15 in penalty fees.
Some said AT&T's move will actually save customers money. Opponents said they think AT&T is just adding a bunch of little fees that will cost people more.
"I think if other carriers keep unlimited for a set fee, AT&T will lose customers," said Aimee Slaton, of Tulsa.
"I think it's a ripoff! I want the iPhone. I can only use it with AT&T, but I would reconsider even getting it if I have to pay through the nose to use it," said Tammi Cole, of Oklahoma City.
"I checked my usage and really haven't used as much as I thought, I have wifi at home... So it could save me some money," said Jamie, of Tulsa.
To find out if your rates will go up or down, AT&T has put together a new online data calculator that takes into account how much music a customer streams, how many texts or emails they send and so on.
