OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City man told firefighters he was asleep when a fire broke out at his home Thursday morning in the 3700 block of North Land in Northwest Oklahoma City.
The man said he did not have a smoke detector but woke up to the smell of smoke and got out safely.
"He's fortunate that since he did not have a smoke alarm he was able to wake up. We can't overemphasize how important it is for smoke alarms," said Oklahoma City Fire Acting Battalion Chief Tommy Curry.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. No other injuries were reported.
Fire officials estimated the damage at $80,000
