Roofing Companies Get to Work on Hail-Damaged Homes

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sunday's hailstorm in northwest Oklahoma City was bad news for homeowners but good business for roofing companies. Several local roofing companies are already busy putting up tarps on hail-damaged roofs.

Jeff Lincoln of Storm Master Roofing said crews usually won't add new shingles until after insurance claims are approved.

Insurance adjusters and roofing companies are out in full force surveying the damage.

The best piece of advice from a veteran in the roofing business is to make sure the company you choose is reputable.

"Watch out of the fly-by-nighters who are going to be coming in by the thousands," roofer Keith Elliott said.

Elliott also said even if you aren't missing shingles, dents can also cause leaks in your roof. He said do not get on your roof yourself, but wait for a professional.

Many area hardware stores are already running out or are out of tarps to cover up damages roofs and windows. With more rain expected to roll into the state, getting things patched up is a priority for anyone with hail and storm damage.

However, the United Methodists will provide tarps to storm victims. The tarps will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church on Council Road Tuesday, May 18.
