OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police said a teen burglary suspect in a string of car burglaries in a northwest Oklahoma City was living in a shed behind an old Sonic Drive-In.

The 15-year-old teen was a runaway and had been reported missing since March.

Police said they believe the teen lived in a shed behind the business, which was not too far from the northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood that has been hit by burglars.

"They did find what appeared to be the lock cut off of the shed, and they could tell there was somebody staying there. There were sheets, clothing," said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow.

Inside the shed, police also found items belonging to several Metro residents.

"When they looked at one particular item of clothing, an ID card fell out of this piece of clothing. They saw the name on it. They were able to find out who that was and get a phone number for them. They called this person, and they found out this ID had been stolen in a previous burglary," Wardlow said.

Police tracked down the 15-year-old at a home not too far from the neighborhood. The teen told police in a statement that his mother had died, and he would rather live in a shed than with DHS.

The 15-year-old is in juvenile custody, but police said they believe there is at least one other suspect involved in the burglaries.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300.
