OKLAHOMA CITY -- Firefighters worked to contain a house fire that started at 2505 N.E. 11th Street in Oklahoma City and damaged three homes Thursday evening.
Firefighters were called to the area at about 6:40 p.m. to find a vacant home was fully involved in flames. Crews were still working to extinguish hot spots nearly an hour later.
Smoke from the blaze could be seen from several miles away.
Randall Nealy said the fire that started in the vacant home next door spread to his home within a matter of minutes. A third home was also damaged. Nealy said he grew up in his home and seeing his home on fire was heartbreaking.
"I was in the house and my wife smelled smoke," Nealy said. "I was in shock. I was in shock. I'm still in shock. I'm overwhelmed right now."
Nealy said he's now reflecting on the risk he took, running back inside the burning home to save what he could.
"I just grabbed some clothes, and that's all I have to my name," Nealy said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
