OKLAHOMA CITY -- A metro family is opening up about a crash that nearly killed their loved one. Tuesday a van fleeing from state troopers plowed into a blue Mustang at a southeast Oklahoma City intersection.

Jonathan Butler, 19, has numerous injuries to his head, arms and torso, but he is awake and talking to family members.

It took emergency crews 20 minutes to free the driver and his passenger. The family of the driver says he is awake and talking, but he has a long road to recovery.

"He's my heart, he's my everything, he's my only child," Donna Walker said.

Donna Walker knows Jonathan Butler better than anyone, she's his mother. She says he's caring, handsome, and a hard worker. But she never thought she'd ever have to see him in intensive care and especially so close to Mother's Day.

"I lost my Dad on Mother's Day last year, and I don't want to lose another relative," Walker said.

State troopers were trying to stop 22-year-old Tiffany Hughes who was driving a van with covered tags. She led them on a chase before hitting the car Butler was driving. Butler and his passenger had to be cut from their car.

"The highway patrol said at the hospital that he got to the car, he saw these two guys, and they both were unconscious and he thought they were dead," Jonathan Butler's grandmother, Doretha Butler said.

Even after the crash troopers say Hughes got out of the van and started running. They had to chase her down.

"Whose child is safe outside…riding their bicycles or pregnant women walking across the street or anybody?" Jonathan Butler's cousin Vanessa Butler said.

Jonathan Butler has been in intensive care since the crash. He has several broken bones in his face, and injuries to his arms and torso. Doctors are waiting for the swelling to go down before they can do surgery.

While focusing on his recovery the family says they want Hughes to pay for what has happened.

"I just want justice served for my son," said Walker. "It was a senseless act. He was my only child and I don't know what I would have done if I had lost him."

Hughes is jailed on charges of speeding and evading an officer. Troopers say they found stolen clothes in the van which may be the reason why she fled.

As for the passenger in Butler's car, 20-year-old Patrick Lewis Jr. is in good condition. He's had surgery but is up, walking around and recovering.
