OKLAHOMA CITY -- Parents in a south Oklahoma City neighborhood are holding their kids a little tighter after an attempted abduction. It happened Wednesday morning as two children were on their way to school.

Quite a few parents are a little shaken up, especially because they live in a neighborhood considered to be relatively safe.

"I got scared," said concerned parent Connie Zuniga. "I didn't feel like coming outside anymore."

It was a wakeup call for parents and children in the quiet south Oklahoma City community after two boys at school were targeted by would-be kidnappers.

"It's pretty scary thinking that you're kid could be abducted just two houses away and not even know about it," Zuniga said.

Zuniga and her two children live just down the street where the attempted abduction happened. Her 8-year-old daughter would normally visit her friend unattended, but not anymore.

"She's not even allowed to get the mail by herself," said Zuniga. "We're going to keep a close eye on them."

Police say two boys, students at Sky Ranch Elementary, were waiting at a bus stop near Brookwood Road and Shartel Avenue when two men in a red Mustang tried to get them to come into their car. The boys refused and continued walking to a friend's house where they reported the incident to an adult, who called police.

"He absolutely did the right thing," said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow. "We would encourage anyone in this situation to get away from the suspect, put as much distance between themselves and the suspect as possible."

The Moore School District sent out this letter to parents alerting them to the incident, it reads in part "We felt it important to keep you informed...we will work hard to make sure that our campus is safe and secure."

"I'm glad the school at least lets us know," said Zuniga. "They're pretty good about it."

All police have to go on is a vague description of two white men, one with long blonde hair and another with short dark hair, traveling in a red Ford Mustang.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact Oklahoma City crime stoppers at 235-7300.
