Two Killed In Delaware County Crash

Two people were killed in a head-on collision on State Highway 59 in Deleware County Friday afternoon.

DELAWARE COUNTY -- Two people were killed in a head-on collision on State Highway 59 in Delaware County Friday afternoon. The accident took place at about 1:18 p.m. just five miles south of Grove.

According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a car driven by 16-year-old Douglas L. Hudelston of Jay crossed the center lane and struck an oncoming car. Two passengers in the oncoming car were pronounced dead of massive injuries.

Dead are Betty L. Jeffries, 78, and Randy P. Jeffries, 58, both of Jay. The trooper's report states that it is unknown whether they were wearing safety belts or not.

The driver of the car that was hit head on, 69-year-old Gloria H. Ferguson of Jay, was pinned in the vehicle for about 25 minutes before she was rescued. She was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in fair condition.

Two teen passengers in Hudelston's car were treated and released from area hospitals. Hudelston was admitted to a Joplin hospital in fair condition.

The trooper's report lists the cause of the collision as driving under the influence.
