OKLAHOMA CITY – One day every year, attorneys from around the state volunteer to answer your questions, free of charge. The day is called Ask a Lawyer Day and it's today, April 29.
"We get some interesting questions that make you think twice," said attorney Tina Izadi.
Attorney Mike Blaschke said a few years ago he got a call about cattle rustling, as in stealing cows.
But most questions are about estate planning, landlord tenant issues, bankruptcy, child custody, social security, immigration and small claims issues.
One thing that won't come up in the conversation is a solicitation for business from the attorneys.
"That is not happening. This is purely a community service project. We're there to answer questions only. We will do our best to answer the questions, if we don't have direct knowledge, we'll find someone who does," Izadi said.
About 300 attorneys will be answering calls to the statewide hotline, which is open from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. To get free legal advice, just call the hotline: 1-800-456-8525.
